Artichoke

The Artichoke is a perennial thistle with arching which can grows to 1-2 m tall and it silvery green leaves which are commonly 50–70 cm long. The flowers of artichoke develop from an edible bud with various triangular scales. The fleshy portions of the base are consists of the edible portion of the buds which is commonly known as the "heart"; while the florets in the center of the bud are called the "choke". S teaming and boiling are the two traditional cooking methods.

How to cook an artichoke:
1. Use scissors to cut off the little throned tips on the end of each leaves.
2. Cut off about 1-inch of the tip with knife.
3. First add water into a large pot then sprinkle it with 1 tbsp.salt after that insert it in the steaming basket, add the artichoke, cover and bring to a boil, at last reduce heat to simmer till tender, which will take about 30-40 minutes.
4. The yummy artichoke is ready to eat.

How to eat an artichoke:
You can eat artichoke both hot and cold or you can just pull off the petals and dip it with mayonnaise, ketchup, vinegar, or your favorite sauce. The remaining heart is edible before you remove the hard core.

Nutritional and Health Benefits:
The artichoke is perfectly rich in potassium, folic acid and vitamin C. Fresh or dried leaves are used to lower blood cholesterol while increase bile production as well.
