In Southwestern and American cuisine, people often call it as hot sauce, which is made of chili peppers, salt and vinegar, which serves as an excellent dipping sauce for almost every single meal.

However, the Chinese hot sauce, also referred to as “doubanjiang”, is quite different from the common type, which is origin from American. Doubanjiang is made of fermented soy beans, board beans, salt and rice, with other seasonings. In fact, it comes into two categories, which are the plain one and spicy one, both of which are commonly used as a dipping sauce or in stir-frying. “Pixian doubanjiang” is quite famous chili bean sauce in China and people would like to add this into stir-fries, rice or noodles, and it surely gives a delicious kick to any meal. You can find “Pixian doubanjiang” in any Asian grocery stores.
