Hoisin Sauce or Barbeque Sauce

Pubtime:2009-11-08

Chinese barbecue sauce, also named as hoisin sauce, is a fragrant flavoring condiment usually used in Chinese noodle recipes as well as in stir-fries. It is a perfect combination of fermented bean sauce, soy bean, water, garlic, vinegar, and other Chinese authentic spices, like red chili peppers. Often the flavor of Chinese barbeque sauce is described as spicy, salty, and slightly sweet, therefore Hoisin sauce is quite different from the western barbeque sauce which is often tomato or mustard-based. Suppose you are a Chinese food lover, add hoisin sauce in your stir-fries may be a novel act to enjoy authentic Chinese flavor.

Other names:
Suckling pig sauce, Haixian Sauce (Chinese).

Provide:
Chinese barbeque sauce is available in many supermarkets and Asian markets.

Usage:
Since Chinese barbeque sauce has a unique or heavy taste, if you are new to Chinese food it is highly recommended that you try a small portion at a time, otherwise you may have to add water to lighten the flavor.
Chinese barbeque sauce is often brushed on beef, chicken, pork and other barbecued foods during barbequing or after cooking. Usually it is used in “Peking Duck”, egg roles, spring rolls and foods like this.
