Description

Apple Wedge Salad is a fresh, vibrant take on the classic wedge salad, combining crisp iceberg lettuce with sweet apple slices,  blue cheese crumbles, and a tangy, creamy dressing. With its beautiful presentation and sweet-savory flavor balance, this refreshing salad is perfect as a light meal, elegant starter, or flavorful side dish for any occasion.

Ingredients

For the salad:

  • 1 head iceberg lettuce, cut into 4 wedges

  • 1 large apple (Honeycrisp or Fuji), thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles

  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced

  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

  • Fresh chives or parsley, for garnish

For the dressing:

  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise

  • 2 tbsp buttermilk or milk

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Make the Dressing:
In a small bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, buttermilk, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Adjust consistency with extra buttermilk if desired. Chill until ready to use.

  • Prepare the Lettuce Wedges:
Remove any wilted outer leaves. Cut the head of lettuce into 4 even wedges, trimming the base if needed.

  • Assemble the Salad:
Place each wedge on a plate. Top with apple slices,  blue cheese, red onion, and chopped nuts if using.

  • Add Dressing and Garnish:
Drizzle each wedge with dressing. Garnish with fresh herbs like chives or parsley.

  • Serve:
Serve immediately with a knife and fork.

Notes

Swap blue cheese for feta or goat cheese if preferred.Use dairy-free dressing for a vegan option.Toss apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning if prepping ahead. For a chopped salad version, dice all ingredients and mix together.
