Description

Chicken Parmesan is a classic, comforting Italian-American dish made with crispy breaded chicken, savory marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese. This homemade version is easy to make and offers all the cheesy, crispy goodness you crave. Perfect for weeknights, special occasions, or a family dinner, it’s a meal that’s both satisfying and customizable.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 large eggs, beaten

  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs (Panko for extra crispiness)

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning (or basil/oregano)

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1/4 cup fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

  • Olive oil, for frying

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken:

    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

    • Slice the chicken breasts in half horizontally for even cooking (if needed) and season both sides with salt and pepper.

  • Bread the Chicken:

    • Set up a breading station:

      • In one dish, place flour.

      • In another dish, beat the eggs.

      • In a third dish, combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder.

    • Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip in the beaten eggs, and coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Press gently to ensure the breadcrumbs stick.

  • Cook the Chicken:

    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the breaded chicken and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.

    • Remove from the skillet and set aside on a plate.

  • Assemble the Dish:

    • Place the fried chicken breasts on the prepared baking sheet. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

    • Transfer the chicken to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

  • Serve:

    • Remove the chicken from the oven. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.
