Description

Cinnamon Sugar Cruffins are a delightful pastry that blends the flaky texture of croissants with the sweet, cinnamon goodness of muffins. These easy-to-make, buttery pastries are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a sweet treat. Made with store-bought puff pastry, they come together quickly and are sure to become an instant favorite for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought, thawed if frozen)

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)

  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Mixture:

    • In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and brown sugar (if using). Set aside.

  • Shape the Cruffins:

    • Roll Out the Puff Pastry: Roll out the sheet of puff pastry on a clean surface. Brush it evenly with the melted butter, ensuring the entire surface is coated.

    • Sprinkle the Cinnamon Sugar: Generously sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the buttered puff pastry.

    • Cut and Stack the Dough: Cut the pastry into 6-8 strips (depending on how many cruffins you want). Carefully stack the strips on top of each other to create layers. Then, slice the stacked pastry into smaller sections (about 2-3 inches each).

    • Shape the Cruffins: Gently twist and roll each section of dough into a spiral, and then tuck the ends under slightly to form a neat muffin-like shape.

  • Bake the Cruffins:

    • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a muffin tin or line it with muffin liners.

    • Place the Cruffins in the Tin: Place each spiral dough piece into the muffin tin, giving them a little space to puff up as they bake.

    • Bake: Bake the cruffins for 18-22 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy on top.

  • Serve:

    • Cool and Dust: Once baked, remove the cruffins from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar for a sweet finishing touch before serving.

    • Enjoy: Serve the cruffins warm with a cup of coffee or tea, and enjoy the flaky, sweet goodness!

Notes

For added crunch, sprinkle chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts over the cinnamon sugar filling. For a twist, try adding mini chocolate chips or finely chopped apples before rolling up the dough.
