Description

Easy Homemade Hard Candy is a classic, clear, and crunchy treat made from simple pantry ingredients like sugar, corn syrup, and water. This versatile recipe lets you customize flavors and colors for personalized candies perfect for gifts, parties, or sweet indulgence, all without needing special equipment.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar

  • 2/3 cup light corn syrup

  • 3/4 cup water

  • 1/2 teaspoon flavored extract (peppermint, cherry, lemon, etc.)

  • Food coloring (optional)

  • Powdered sugar or cornstarch (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Work Surface: Lightly grease a silicone mat or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, mix sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.

  3. Boil Mixture: Attach a candy thermometer to the pan. Bring to a boil without stirring. Continue boiling until temperature reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).

  4. Remove from Heat: Immediately remove from heat when 300°F is reached and let bubbling subside.

  5. Add Flavor and Color: Stir in flavored extract and food coloring if desired.

  6. Pour and Shape: Carefully pour hot candy onto prepared surface. Let cool slightly, then score with a knife or cut shapes using cookie cutters before fully hardening.

  7. Cool Completely: Allow candy to harden completely at room temperature.

  8. Store: Break into pieces if needed. Dust with powdered sugar or cornstarch to prevent sticking. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

Use a candy thermometer for accurate temperature control.Corn syrup is important to prevent crystallization.Dusting prevents candies from sticking together.Pour candy carefully as it is extremely hot.
