Description

Garlic Herb Butter Thanksgiving Turkey is a succulent and flavorful holiday centerpiece infused with a rich garlic and herb butter. This easy-to-make roast turkey delivers tender, juicy meat with crispy golden skin, perfect for impressing your Thanksgiving guests.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (12-14 pounds), thawed

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped

  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves

  • 2 tablespoons fresh sage, chopped

  • Zest of 1 lemon

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • 1 large onion, quartered

  • 1 lemon, halved

  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth (for basting and roasting pan)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Position a rack in a roasting pan.

  • Prepare Herb Butter: In a bowl, mix softened butter, garlic, rosemary, thyme, sage, lemon zest, salt, and pepper.

  • Prepare Turkey: Remove giblets and pat turkey dry. Gently loosen skin from breast and legs. Spread half the herb butter under the skin on the meat. Rub remaining butter all over the outside.

  • Stuff Turkey: Place quartered onion and lemon halves inside the cavity.

  • Roast: Put turkey breast-side up on the rack. Pour chicken broth into pan. Roast, basting every 30 minutes, until an instant-read thermometer reads 165°F (74°C) in the thickest thigh, about 3–3½ hours.

  • Rest: Remove from oven, tent loosely with foil, and rest for 20–30 minutes before carving.

Notes

Basting regularly and butter under the skin keeps meat moist.Trussing is optional but helps even cooking.Adjust cooking time for smaller turkeys.Tent with foil if skin browns too quickly.
