Description

Hamburger Steak features tender, seasoned ground beef patties cooked to perfection and smothered in rich, savory onion gravy. This classic American comfort food is easy to make, hearty, and pairs perfectly with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, sliced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • ½ cup bread crumbs

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 2 tbsp butter or oil

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

  2. Form mixture into oval-shaped patties.

  3. Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties until browned on both sides and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.

  4. In the same skillet, sauté onions and garlic until soft and caramelized.

  5. Sprinkle flour over onions and stir to form a roux. Gradually whisk in beef broth, cooking until gravy thickens.

  6. Return patties to skillet, spoon gravy over them, and simmer for a few minutes until heated through.

  7. Serve hot with your favorite sides.

Notes

Add mushrooms to the gravy for extra depth of flavor.Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.Mix fresh herbs like parsley or thyme into the patties.Top patties with cheese slices for a cheesy variation.
