Description

Mozzarella Chicken in Basil Cream Sauce is an indulgent dish that combines tender chicken breasts with a creamy, basil-infused sauce, topped with melted mozzarella. This comforting recipe offers a perfect blend of freshness, creaminess, and Italian flair, making it a great choice for both weeknight dinners and special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • ½ cup chicken broth

  • ¼ cup freshly chopped basil (plus more for garnish)

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese

  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Season chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 5-6 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 75°C). Remove and set aside.

  • In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  • Add chicken broth and heavy cream to the skillet, stirring to combine. Bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the skillet.

  • Stir in chopped basil, lemon juice, and parmesan cheese. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

  • Return the chicken to the skillet, spoon some sauce over the top, and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella.

  • Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes or until the mozzarella is melted and bubbly.

  • Garnish with additional basil and serve.

Notes

Variations: Add sautéed spinach, mushrooms, or sun-dried tomatoes to the sauce for extra flavor.Cheese Options: Use provolone, fontina, or goat cheese instead of mozzarella for a different twist.Low-Carb: Serve with zucchini noodles or cauliflower rice for a lower-carb alternative.
