Ingredients
- 8 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
-
1 cup heavy cream
-
1/2 cup powdered sugar
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract (or to taste)
-
Whipped cream (for topping)
-
Crushed peppermint candies (for garnish)
-
Chocolate shavings or curls (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Melt the Chocolate:
-
In a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler, melt the chopped chocolate until smooth and glossy. If using the microwave, heat in 20-30 second intervals, stirring in between. Let the melted chocolate cool to room temperature.
-
-
Whip the Cream:
-
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar using an electric mixer on medium-high speed until soft peaks form, about 2-3 minutes.
-
-
Flavor the Cream:
-
Once the cream is whipped, gently fold in the vanilla extract and peppermint extract. Taste and adjust the peppermint extract to your liking.
-
-
Combine the Chocolate and Whipped Cream:
-
Once the melted chocolate has cooled, fold it into the whipped cream mixture until fully combined. Be gentle while folding to keep the mousse light and airy.
-
-
Chill the Mousse:
-
Spoon the mousse into individual serving dishes or glasses. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set and chilled.
-
-
Serve:
-
Before serving, top each mousse with a dollop of whipped cream, a sprinkle of crushed peppermint candies, and chocolate shavings or curls, if desired.
