Description

Sushi Hand Roll, or Temaki, is a fun and interactive Japanese dish featuring fresh sushi rice, fish, and vegetables wrapped in a crispy seaweed cone. Easy to customize and quick to assemble, these hand rolls are perfect for casual meals, parties, and sushi lovers looking for a hands-on experience.

Ingredients

  • Cooked sushi rice (seasoned with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt)

  • Nori sheets (seaweed)

  • Fresh fish (tuna, salmon, or crab)

  • Cucumber (julienned)

  • Avocado (sliced)

  • Carrot (julienned)

  • Scallions (chopped)

  • Cream cheese (optional)

  • Soy sauce (for dipping)

  • Wasabi and pickled ginger (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare sushi rice according to package instructions, seasoning with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Allow to cool to room temperature.

  2. Cut nori sheets into halves or thirds depending on the desired size of the hand rolls.

  3. Place a piece of nori shiny side down in your hand. Spread a small handful of sushi rice diagonally across one corner of the nori sheet.

  4. Layer slices of fresh fish, cucumber, avocado, carrot, scallions, and cream cheese (if using) on top of the rice.

  5. Roll the nori into a cone shape, starting from the corner with the fillings and rice, sealing the edge with a little water.

  6. Serve immediately with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.

Notes

Substitute raw fish with cooked shrimp, crab meat, or tempura vegetables for variation.Add spicy mayo or eel sauce for additional flavor.Use pickled radish or sprouts for extra crunch.Create vegetarian rolls with tofu and assorted vegetables.Assemble just before serving to maintain crispiness of the nori.
