Description

White Barbecue Chicken is a tangy, smoky Southern classic featuring juicy grilled or baked chicken slathered in a creamy white BBQ sauce made from mayonnaise, vinegar, lemon juice, and spices. A bold and zesty Alabama favorite, this dish is a unique twist on traditional barbecue that’s perfect for cookouts and family dinners.

Ingredients

  • Chicken pieces (breasts, thighs, or drumsticks)

  • Mayonnaise

  • Apple cider vinegar

  • Lemon juice

  • Dijon mustard

  • Prepared horseradish (not creamy)

  • Garlic (minced or powder)

  • Onion powder

  • Salt

  • Black pepper

  • Cayenne pepper or hot sauce (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, vinegar, lemon juice, mustard, horseradish, garlic, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne or hot sauce (if using).

  • Reserve half the sauce for serving. Use the other half to marinate the chicken in a sealed container or bag for at least 1 hour or overnight.

  • Preheat grill or oven to medium-high heat.

  • Grill or bake chicken, turning occasionally, until nicely charred and cooked through (internal temp 165°F/74°C).

  • Brush with reserved sauce during the last few minutes of cooking if desired.

  • Serve hot with extra white BBQ sauce on the side.

Notes
