Description

Apple Pie Ice Cream is a creamy, no-churn dessert that combines the cozy, spiced flavors of apple pie with the cold, creamy indulgence of ice cream. With tender chunks of apples, a cinnamon-spiced base, and a buttery crumble topping, this autumn-inspired treat is perfect for fall or any time you crave a sweet, comforting dessert.

Ingredients

    • For the Ice Cream Base:

      • 2 cups heavy whipping cream

      • 1 cup whole milk

      • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

      • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

      • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

      • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

      • 1/2 cup apple pie filling (or homemade cooked apples)

      • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

    • For the Crumble Topping:

      • 1/4 cup rolled oats

      • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

      • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

      • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Make the Ice Cream Base:

    • In a large bowl, whisk together the heavy whipping cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth.

  • Prepare the Apple Filling:

    • If using homemade apples, sauté diced apples with a tablespoon of sugar, a pinch of cinnamon, and lemon juice until soft and tender (about 5-7 minutes). Let them cool completely before adding them to the ice cream mixture.

  • Fold in the Apples:

    • Once the apple mixture is cool, gently fold the apple pie filling into the cream mixture.

  • Freeze:

    • Pour the ice cream base into an airtight container and cover. Freeze for at least 4-6 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to set and the mixture to firm up.

  • Make the Crumble Topping:

    • In a small bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon. Stir until the mixture resembles small crumbs.

    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the crumble mixture onto a baking sheet in an even layer and bake for 10-12 minutes, stirring halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.

    • Let the crumble cool completely.

  • Serve the Ice Cream:

    • Once the ice cream is fully frozen and set, scoop it into bowls or cones.

    • Sprinkle the baked crumble topping generously over the ice cream for a sweet, crunchy finish.

Notes

Caramel Swirl: For extra flavor, drizzle some caramel sauce into the ice cream base before freezing.Vegan Version: Use coconut milk and coconut cream instead of heavy cream and milk for a dairy-free version.Baked Apples: For a more rustic version, bake apple chunks with cinnamon and sugar and add them to the ice cream base instead of using store-bought pie filling.
